I figure I might as well make some use of the $3 a month it costs to keep this blog running. And with bloggers in the news these days as they "candidly" report on the Democratic Convention, it seems fitting that I join in with my own self-indulgent internet posting. No, I don't have a press pass to the convention, but I do have C-SPAN (at least when its not raining--satellite dish tv sucks) and thats as good or better than being at the fleet center itself.
I'm afraid I really am beginning to lean democrat. The convention has featured a number of emotionally charged speeches that, despite generality and vagueness, have helped to create a positive spin for the Dems. Bill Clinton was awesome, Obama is refreshing and unique, and Edwards' optimistic tone and southern charm makes him one of the most important vice-presidential candidates in the last couple decades.
If there's one reason that I'll vote for Kerry, its because of what Edwards called "restored credibility." I'm tired of the whole world hating America and using our president as the brunt of their jokes. No one really thinks Bush is the tough-guy, Reagan-type conservative Republicans try to cast him as. Bush's biggest failure was when he tried to cover up the neo-conservative agenda of his aides with realist hype. Let's elect a president who is at least honest with the public and military before he sends 900+ soldiers and thousands upon thousands of Iraqis to their deaths.
More of the world harbors ill will towards America than did four years ago. The war aginst terrorism is a war of ideas, a war against hate and ideology. We aren't making progress right now on the military front against terrorism, and more importantly, we're losing ground in the war on ideas. Thats enough to make me vote Kerry, even if he does raise taxes.
