So much for following up on my last post. Austin, as expected, was awesome. And yes, UT Law is a serious possibility for me (of many)...if I could ever get in. If you've never been to Texas, I suggest visiting Austin first. The mid-sized hip city will completely abolish any negative stereotypes of Texas you might have previously had.
John Edwards?! Talk about glamor politics. Since when did a politician become popular for his image alone? True, he's a great oratician and hes plenty smart, but his policy is sketchy and he made his millions busting doctors for "negligence." People wonder why insurance is so crappy in this country. Super trial lawyers like John Edwards might look like they are champions of the "little guy." But when malpractice insurance cuts a doctor's salary by a third or more, and overcautious medical advice/action reduces the efficiency and competence of our health system, one has to wonder how much good is really being done.
That aside, I kinda like John Edwards, and I think his protectionist tone in the primaries was just a niche he was forced into. We wont be hearing anymore of that anti-free trade nonsense now that John Kerry is making the decisions. Edwards' optimism and down-to-earth style should balance out Kerry's stiff elitism.
Before finishing, a quick story:
A young guy came into Starbucks yesterday talking about how right the Rastafarians were when they called Bush the "Beast." I bit my tongue in amusement while he rattled on with charged ignorance. After he finished his little oratory, I tried to ask "If Bush is the Beast, then who is Saddam?" I don't think he heard me though. He was already halfway out the door on his way to Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11.
And you wonder how Nader still picks up 5% of the vote.
