At this point, the only reason I'm posting on the NHL's long-sought deal with the NHLPA is because I posted earlier this year when the two sides failed to save the 2004-05 season. Like most hockey fans, I was only moderately excited to learn that Bettman and Goodenow had finally resolved their differences.
But when you read over the details of the deal, it is really frustrating that both sides took this long to get something in writing. The best part of the deal involves the hard salary cap, a system very similar to the NFL. Could this mean the NHL is headed towards a major resurgence in coming years? Maybe. I'm excited that the league will ostensibly run so much smoother. The only questions is, how long will it be before followers welcome back the league that decided its fans were expendable for more than a year?
