To those of you unaware, my gross inattentiveness to this blog is somewhat excused by the fact that I am currently mired in the deep and hellish world of 1L Law School exams. For those of you lucky enough to survive the infamous first year of law school, you surely understand what my life is like right now. For the rest of you, suffice it to say that being a 1L sucks.
But happily, it'll all be over in one week, at which time I will have forgotten everything due to a combination of short-term memory overload and exorbitant alcohol consumption.
To at least make this post somewhat substantive, I will quickly comment on an ongoing issue that finally made the front page of the Washington Post today. I'm talking about the imminent passage of a DC smoking ban in bars and restaurants.
Let me just say that I cannot WAIT until they finally get this thing passed. It should go through within the next month, still not soon enough. Sure, i've been known to enjoy the occasional beer-induced cigarette on a cold wintry night. But constantly breathing in and walking through noxious clouds of stale smoke every weekend is really beginning to get on my nerves. The worst is when I go to a bar to watch football on Sunday's and inevitably subject my lungs to a four-hour barrage of second-hand fumes.
It would also be nice to come home from a bar and NOT have all my clothes infused with cigarette smoke and ash. I figure going to a bar and drinking a lot is bad enough for my body, but i'd rather be able to make my own choice of whether to destroy my lungs.
Well, having officially come off as a self-righteous "fascist," as one of my friends called me today when I mentioned this argument, it's time to get some rest before launching into another session with the law. I'll be back soon...
