This week, I began my final year in law school. Hard to believe that I've actually made it this far. Readers of this blog may remember the tribulations of my first year, and my vacillating feelings on returning to law school for my second year.
I really am happy that i've stuck it out and made it to 3L. Law school really does get better after the first year. I'm somewhat enjoying it now, even though I still blame GW more than the law school experience itself as the prime instigator in my unhappiness during 1L. It's just too big! It's hard to not feel like an anonymous number being pushed through the levers of the lawyer factory that is GW Law. The professors, however, are really good at GW -- I can't complain about that.
This semester, I'm taking the following classes:
Criminal Procedure (with Jeffrey Rosen)
Copyright Law (Schecter)
Evidence (Friedenthal)
Entertainment Law (Rosenthal)
Professional Responsibility (Gabaldon)
It's a busy schedule, but a somewhat interesting mix of classes. Entertainment Law and Copyright Law go well together, and i'm thrilled to have another Constitution-oriented class with Professor Rosen.
The most unfortunate thing about 3L is that students' priorities are not in the classroom. For me, priority #1 is finding a job I want in a place i'd like to be. Priority #2 is classes. This is how it is for most law students. I'd like to be able to focus on what i'm doing NOW (school), but the law school machine just never seems particularly interested in the value of the educational process.
